About Public Administration

The Department of Public administration, one of the largest Departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences, was established in the year 1983.  Public Administration is one of the most popular subjects of study opted for by distance learners of the Open University. The Department is offering Undergraduate programmes, Post-graduate programmes and  Research programmes. The Department has been adorned by eminent personalities such as Prof.V.S.Prasad, Prof.I.Ramabrahmam, Prof.P.Narsaiah, Prof.K.Murali Manohar  and Prof C.Venkataiah. They have contributed immensely for the growth of the discipline and also contributed for the practice of public administration in their various capacities. At present the department has qualified and committed faculty with rich teaching, research and administrative experience.

The Department imparts education through its quality Self-instructional material, Radio and Tele-Lessons, Tele-Conferences which are broadcast /telecast through AIR, Doordarshan and TSAT which are developed in association with the different distinguished experts from highly reputed Universities and organisations.

About the Conference

Public Administration plays a crucial role in shaping governance structures and policies that impact the lives of citizens. The interface of the Public Administration domain and discipline is dynamic and complex involving theoretical concepts, practical applications, and ongoing evolution. Public administration as a discipline has evolved significantly over the past 75 years in India, witnessing various trajectories and experiencing changes in its contemporary status.

The International Conference on “75 Years of Public Administration Discipline in India: Trajectories and Contemporary Status” aims to delve into the evolution, challenges, and current state of Public Administration as a discipline in India. The Conference seeks to bring together Scholars, Practitioners, Policy makers, and Students to discuss and analyze the journey of Public Administration over the past seven decades, exploring key milestones, emerging trends, and future directions.

Through interactive sessions, panel discussions, and paper presentations, the seminar intends to foster a deeper understanding of the role of Public Administration in shaping governance, policy implementation, and societal development in India.

  1. Trace the historical trajectories of Public Administration in India since independence,
    highlighting key milestones, policy shifts and institutional developments.
  2. Examine the challenges and constraints faced by Public Administration as a discipline in India.
  3. Explore the contemporary status of Public Administration, focusing on innovative pedagogical
    practices, technological advancements and governance reforms shaping the discipline.
  4. Discuss emerging trends such as digital transformation, citizen engagement, sustainable
    development goals (SDGs) and global governance in the context of Public Administration.
  5. Identify best practices, lessons learned and recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness,
    transparency and accountability of Public Administration in India.
  6. Provide a platform for knowledge sharing, networking and collaboration among academia,
    government officials, civil society organizations and stakeholders involved in Public
    Administration research and practice.

Call for Papers

Papers are invited from Academicians, Researchers, Students and others who are interested in the discipline and field of Public Administration. Participants are invited to submit the Abstracts (500 words) for paper presentation on the sub-themes of the Conference. The Abstracts should be emailed to iconpabraou@gmail.com by 08th May 2024 and the soft copy of the full length original papers should be submitted on or before 14th May 2024 in MS word format with a limit of 1500 to 4000 words. The papers will be peer reviewed by the Expert Committee and the best papers will be published in an Edited book with ISBN.                  

Best Research Paper Award                                                                                                  

Best Research Paper Award will be presented in two categories

  1. Faculty Members
  2. Research Scholars

    The Paper should be unpublished and free from plagiarism
